Nativity signifies events and stories surrounding Jesus’s birth.
Nativity has been widely depicted in art since the 4th century. Nativity in New Testament appears in only two of the four Canonical Gospels (Gospel of Luke and Gospel of Matthew). Luke's mostly covers stories before the birth of Jesus and centers around Mary, while Matthew's story takes recounts events mostly after the birth of Jesus and centers around Joseph.
In terms of volume of coverage, Nativity text in the Gospel of Luke is three times the length of the Nativity text in the Gospel of Matthew. In Luke’s Gospel, Mary learns about her virgin conception from the angel Gabriel.
The Gospels further narrate events about Virgin Mary, and how she was betrothed to Joseph. These two gospels further narrate how an angel (Gabriel) appeared before Virgin Mary announcing how she would give birth to Jesus, the Son of God. This incident, referred to as the Annunciation, is often depicted in art and has been covered in this app.
In Luke's Gospel, Joseph and Mary travelled to Bethlehem, the family of Joseph's ancestors, to be listed in a tax census. While at Bethlehem, Mary gave birth to Jesus in a stable as rooms were unavailable in the inns. Jesus’ birth was announced by an angel to shepherds on a hillside, that the "Saviour, Christ the Lord" has arrived on this Earth. The shepherds later found the baby Jesus lying in the manger as had been described by the angel.
In Matthew 2:1-12, the Star of Bethlehem reveals the birth of Jesus the three Magi or the three "wise men" who travel to Jerusalem from an unknown eastern country. Setting out from the East, they worship the infant Messiah and bring him the gifts intimated in Isaiah 60.
In our small little contribution, we bring you the various events of Nativity, and here’s a vignette of more than fifty of Nativity’s events in art, each more exquisite than the other. And what’s more?

I don't like that when you set a picture for wallpaper, you can't see the whole picture.
