A dystopian horror stealth game
We should like you pay attention to this review for several reasons. First off, because it's a stealth game, and mobile gaming is too short off such a wonderful genre. You can't clear a path by beating anyone. No ninja stars, no flaming swords, no fist fighting whatsoever. The main character must hide all the time. It might sound tedious, and it is: you can't physically attack anyone.
Secondly, because it makes use of some sort of meta-narrative resources to narrow the gap of ludonarrative dissonance, which is a term we critics often use to refer to when a game and its gameplay haven't anything to do with each other, so to speak. In this case, that ludowhatever has been brilliantly solved by a gameplay twist: you don't control the main character, you're the sidekick who helps her by hacking into the bad guys' system through your cellphone, the same you're just now holding in your hand.
Lastly, because this game can brag of such an elevated technical performance, both in terms of raw gameplay and cutscenes, that it deserves a golden pass to the Olympus of videogaming. As far of 2014, money spent on Republique is money well spent. We could only ask for some bold features to involve device's cam or mic, or something to make use of tilt control.
