Samsung's Smartwatch Closer To Your Wrist: Galaxy Gear Trademarked
Samsung is the most profitable handset vendor in the world and follows a catch-all market strategy, trying to hog the whole range of potential consumers with its diversified products . It was just a matter of time for Samsung to stick its nose on the wearable computing field. Actually, there's been rumors of Samsung working on a smartwatch for a few months now. Finally, some recent hints seems to confirm that rumors: Dutch site Galaxy Club uncovered a US trademark filing for Samsung Galaxy Gear, submitted in late June 2013 and finally published a month later.
Besides the name of the product, which is already quite revealing, the description leaves no room for doubt:
Wearable digital electronic devices in the form of a wristwatch, wrist band or bangle capable of providing access to the Internet and for sending and receiving phone calls, electronic mails and messages; wearable electronic handheld devices in the form of a wristwatch, wrist band or bangle for the wireless receipt, storage and/or transmission of data and messages and for keeping track of or managing personal information; smart phones; tablet computers; portable computers
By now, Samsung hasn't officially confirmed any of this. However, the South Korean manufacturer is running an event on September 4th in which Galaxy Note 3 will be reportedly unveiled. Since best-sold Samsung's phablet is an anticipated release, perhaps the event's surprise, if there's any, could be this Galaxy Gear smartwatch. Be that as it may, if Samsung wants to keep hogging all the mobile computing niches, it has to make a move that some of its competitors have already made. We'll keep you posted.
