Outdoor Family Fun with Plum
by: PBS KIDS • 11
Instead of having your kids locked up behind a computer or mobile screen, PBS Kids has a different thing in mind: why not have them look at the beautiful natural world around them? In Outdoor Family Fun with Plum for the Android and iOS, PBS Kids will invite your kid to complete a new mission each day, employing their smartphone or tablet’s camera to snap shots, such as five places to recycle, take selfies with insects, and the best places to play tag at the park, among others. Your child can also select from a handful of missions available.
I was impressed not only by this app’s unique approach to getting your child outside, but also in how the 150+ missions truly foster a desire to be outside, especially in this post-millennial generation. Plus, it’s incredibly easy to pick-up and play, the graphics are solid, and missions are fun.
Yet, from one parent to another, you’ll have to be actively involved with your child as they use this app, as it doesn’t specifically tell children to not wander off alone, which could be dangerous.
