The 2017 World malaria report (WMR) presents a comprehensive state of play in global progress in the fight against malaria up to the end of 2016. It tracks progress in investments in malaria programmes and research, malaria prevention, diagnosis and treatment, surveillance, trends in malaria disease burden, malaria elimination, and threats in tackling malaria and safeguarding the investments made. The World malaria report is produced by the WHO Global Malaria Programme, with the support of WHO regional and country offices, ministries of health in endemic countries and a broad range of other partners. The primary sources of information are reports from national malaria control programmes (NMCPs) in the 94 countries that had malaria transmission in 2000. This information is supplemented by data from nationally representative household surveys (demographic and health surveys, malaria indicator surveys and multiple indicator cluster surveys) and databases held by other organizations: the Alliance for Malaria Prevention; the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (Global Fund); the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development; Policy Cures; the US President’s Malaria Initiative; and WHO.
