Father and Son provides a short-but-sweet story-driven game

    • Powerful story-driven game
    • Surprisingly easy to play
    • Absolutely free to play
    • Great soundtrack
    • Not very deep nor challenging
    • Ends way too quickly
    • Clipping issues

Starting with the National Archaeological Museum in Naples, you’ll explore the timeless story that ultimately links this son and his archeological dad. In Father and Son for the Android and iOS, you’ll step into the shoes of Michael, a young man who never met his father. As he explores different museums, you’ll be thrown into different time periods with near-identical locations, completing three challenges throughout the game. You’ll interact with different characters with multiple ways to respond. As the story progresses, you’ll come to feel the emotional depth and burden of former abandonment and ultimately reconciliation.

Father and Son does a great job of presenting a short but powerful story-driven game with simple point-and-click mechanics that’s worth checking out, along with a free price tag.

However, while the game places heavy emphasis on storytelling, core mechanics ultimately come up short and shallow, with the game lacking any true challenge and, as stated by the developer, ending far too quickly. There are also some visual clipping issues that need to be worked on.

Father and Son is an adventure that takes off from the National Archaeological Museum in Naples, a cultural institution housing some of humanity’s greatest artefacts and treasures.
What begins as the story of a son who never knew his father becomes a universal and ageless tale, with the present and the past making up the setting for Michael’s travels. Seek for yourself the beauties of Naples, experience the last hours of life in Pompeii before Mount Vesuvius erupted in 79 AD, and explore the ordinary day-to-day life in Ancient Egypt. The past is what makes our present real.
Completion time: 50-60 minutes. Some sections of Father and Son are unlocked by checking in at the Archaeological Museum of Naples, publisher of the game. The Father and Son soundtrack is available for download on the official site.
