    The president of the United States is by far the best known politician both within the United States and around the world. This figure is the head of state as well as the head of government, in charge of the executive branch of the US federal government. He is also the commander in chief of the US military.
    One of the primary duties of the president is to carry out federal laws as established by the constitution and Congress. Other duties include the power to sign laws or the bills passed by both houses of Congress, along with the ability to veto them.
    The elected politician appoints a cabinet of advisors, federal officers and ambassadors to help carry out government tasks. He/she is elected indirectly through the United States Electoral College, as voted by the people, and serves the nation for a term of four years, and can be reelected for an additional term. The only U.S. president ever to have served more than two terms was Franklin Delano Roosevelt. While serving, the president and his/her family reside in the White House, which is located in the United States capital, Washington, D.C.
