It has recently arrived to our hands this app, promoted by the Amber Foundation. It's a nice example about how an app can be useful for charity organizations and people supporting them. In this case, Amber works on helping youngsters whose lives are going in a bad way or had a bad turn. They support residential centres where they can learn practical skills and, in short, start their lives from scratch with sensible support and newly gained self confidence. In other words, Amber tries to give young people a second chance before it's too late, which is a praiseworthy initiative.
About Amber's app, Amber's Homeless Helper, it's a smart app to look for nearly useful resources such as places where one can be taken in, or directly Amber's offices where they can try to help. It's as easy as a series of layers integrated on Maps, just tick those services you are interested and they will be shown in the map of the area you currently are. If needed, you can get step by step instructions to arrive there, just as any other navigation app works.
Therefore, an easy, free and useful app both for people in need of assistance and those who are concerned about them. It's easiness makes this app suitable for non tech savvy people, and works on nearly any Android device (Android 2.2 or higher)
This app is only downloadable from UK, though we'd like that initiatives like this spread through many more countries. It's free, though it'd be nice to help them through a donation, no matter how little it is.

This app helps people concerned about homelessness to find support and resources within a chosen radius of where they are in the United Kingdom. This app allows you to choose what sort of assistance to search for, then shows you where help can be found on a map of the area. You can even get navigation instructions to find the way there by car, bus or walking. You can also support the work of the Amber Foundation by making a donation to them.
