Locavore is all about living and cooking locally, mapping out exactly where and when you can get your hands on beautiful, seasonal produce on your doorstep. This environmentally friendly app pinpoints nearby farmer's markets and food producers, and shows you what foods are in season and where you can get them near you.
A great app grounded in community spirit, and is currently active in the USA and Canada.
Once installed, the app will ask you your location so it can immediately pinpoint producers close to you (on the In Season tab), with the produce in season and how long you have left to get it fresh. I Ate Local displays comments from users locally, based on what they ate and where from.
The Markets tab very usefully points out the farms, CSAs, and farmers markets in your area, each listing featuring the address, contact information, and available produce. Finally, the Browse button lets you browse by produce item or place from a long and varied list of produce.
The app's design feels a little dated and it's currently only active in the USA and Canada. It'd be great to see it in Europe too!

RECENT UPDATE: we've fixed the issue that was preventing some Android users from creating new accounts.
PREVIOUS UPDATE: you asked for more social, and here it is.
• Your name/alias/email is *not* sold, distributed, or used for anything other than Locavore app activities. See User Agreement (http://getlocavore.com/terms).
• Afraid of Big Brother? Use an alias. Or, download Locavore Retro…but, you won’t be able to promote your local farms & food with photos, report to us when information is incorrect, or encourage farmers by telling them they’re great. Life is full of trade-offs.
