A minimalist code editor for your Android

    7.8
    • Light and easy to use
    • Amount of supported languages (with syntaxis highlighter)
    • Cloud storage integration
    • It doesn't have a version control
    • There's no autocomplete option

    "Program on the go!"

    THE VERDICT

DroitEdit by André Restivo is a light and simple code editor for those that want to capture their ideas or debug code while they're not in front of a computer. When it comes to features, perhaps it's not the most thorough mobile IDE, but DroidEdit does have its strong points. Firstly, it supports a huge amount of programming languages (with syntaxis highligher). It allows you to run code in the browser or the console, it's got keyboard shortcuts, it lets you save and load Dropbox files and other cloud services, and finally, it has various text formatting options (auto tab, search and replace, go to a specific line, etc).

    THE PROS

You can't get lost with DroidEdit. The main screen is the code editor, from here you can make a new file and browse the tabs. The side menu and bottom bar keep all the options close to hand. It's strongest points are, however, the amount of languages it supports, the preview option and being able to run the code on the console or in the browser.

    THE CONS

We'd like to see a version control (GIT) and autocomplete options.

This would be the best text editors on android if they rewrite the syntax highlighting or at least take it off the main thread. I have a 100 line html file and it's struggling to highlight that without freezing and I have a 200 line html file which freezes for about a second every time I scroll the screen a couple lines. I have a 1000 line html file that freezes for about 5 seconds every time I scroll the screen a couple lines. Please rewrite your syntax highlighting ?

Great little coding app. Would really like to see this app include options to open from OneDrive since that is a popular Corporate cloud utility.

    Scrolling has terrible lag.

GARBAGE! Worked fine for 2 minutes viewing a small css file. When I reopened the app, it tried to reload my file and BRICKED ITSELF. Killing the app doesn't help -you have to reinstall. DO NOT BUY, there is a better option, regardless of your project.

It's pretty good, but it would be nice if it supported modern ciphers when connecting to SSH (SFTP and git) servers.
