    DroidEdit Pro (code editor)'s review

A minimalist code editor for your Android

    • Light and easy to use
    • Amount of supported languages (with syntaxis highlighter)
    • Cloud storage integration
    • It doesn't have a version control
    • There's no autocomplete option

    "Program on the go!"

DroitEdit by André Restivo is a light and simple code editor for those that want to capture their ideas or debug code while they're not in front of a computer. When it comes to features, perhaps it's not the most thorough mobile IDE, but DroidEdit does have its strong points. Firstly, it supports a huge amount of programming languages (with syntaxis highligher). It allows you to run code in the browser or the console, it's got keyboard shortcuts, it lets you save and load Dropbox files and other cloud services, and finally, it has various text formatting options (auto tab, search and replace, go to a specific line, etc).

You can't get lost with DroidEdit. The main screen is the code editor, from here you can make a new file and browse the tabs. The side menu and bottom bar keep all the options close to hand. It's strongest points are, however, the amount of languages it supports, the preview option and being able to run the code on the console or in the browser.

We'd like to see a version control (GIT) and autocomplete options.

DroidEdit is a text and source code editor (similar to Notepad++ or gedit) for android tablets and phones with the following features:

    Several color themes
    Infinite undo & redo
    Search & replace
    Auto & block indentation
Keep opened files and changes between sessions
Open files directly from dropbox or a file manager
    Character encoding support
    Keyboard shortcuts (List below)
Share documents with other services (dropbox, email, ...)
    Preview HTML files in browser
    Bracket matching
    Go to line
    Run Scripts in SL4A directly
    Configurable Shortcuts

    Pro version only features:

    SFTP/FTP support
    Dropbox, Drive, Box support
    Custom themes
    Run external commands through SSH
    Root mode

    Using different character encodings:

To open a document with a different character encoding than the default: long press the open file button
To create a new document with a different character encoding than the default: long press the new file button
You can make this behavior the default in the preference screen

Long pressing the save document button allows you to save a document with a different filename

DroidEdit is specially useful for new generation android tablets with external keyboards like the Asus Transformer.

Try Hacker's Keyboard for a developer friendly virtual keyboard.

You should try the ad supported DroidEdit Free before buying this app. The ad supported version has exactly the same functionality as the paid version except it doesn't have SFTP support, Dropbox support, Custom themes and root mode.

I really like the apps functions. So far better than any others I've seen. BUT so slow to scroll. If it didn't take so long to render my docs I would code with this editor even at home! I hope its me and not you because the app is great!

Using the Free version cool.. Had an upgrade button that showed GIT as a reason to upgrade.. guess what ... NO GIT. The ad to upgrade to Pro promises alot of things that PRO does not have... So just OK for now.

I like the app so far, only complaint is that I can't access the "Computers" section of my Google Drive. I sync some stuff from my PC to Google Drive and I'd like to be able to access it here. If that gets added it'll be 5 stars from me. Other than that I have no complaints, very well done. Definitely satisfied with my purchase.

Great app, perfect for coding on the go. I have noticed an issue though, and it revolves around saving to Google Drive. You cannot preview files in the browser that have been saved to Google Drive. Maybe there is a good reason for this, but logic would suggest that the app should save a local copy of every remote file, for previewing? Other than that, great stuff.
