    THE VERDICT

Trace Snow (formerly AlpineReplay) is a premiere ski and snowboard tracking app, made by skiers and snowboarders for skiers and snowboarders.

With a very smooth and attractive design, it allows you to track and improve your runs by measuring speed, airtime, distance, vertical, calories, and more.

With your very own profile, you can check into ski resorts, find other snow enthusiasts and pit yourself against the global leader board, as well as video and share the action.

    THE PROS

Trace Snow has an incredibly attractive design, and runs very smoothly indeed. From the quick menu options you can start a new run, shoot a new video, check your profile, the daily feed and leaderboards in just a couple of taps.

The app has the social thing totally down: through your profile, you can view all of your sessions, view and follow others and search for and invite friends to compare your runs.

The app features a huge catalogue of resorts, which you can search for or browse via map view. There you can get loads of info on facilities, as well as which users are there. Using the app at certain sponsored resorts earns you special medals too.

A premium subscription to Trace Snow ($4.99/month, $38.99/year) gets you enhanced leaderboard filtering, video shooting with on-screen stats, angle of descent stats and exclusive badges.

    THE CONS

It would be great if there were a feature just for taking photos.

The app can be a bit of a battery drainer too- but in the settings, you can set a battery level at which you stop the app collecting data. This may be great for your battery, but crummy if you battery dropped mid-run and you missed recording vital data.

Love this app. It tracks data very well and is inrecidibly informative. The only problem I have is that the aop doesn't always update after a run but it will update when you upload the data. Well done AlpineReplay!

Only two issues I can see; 1. The login/signup is dodgy. Even with Facebook it simply does not work for more than a few friends of mine. They simply cannot use the app which sucks. 2. I get notifications like "Legit. You were #1 in Distance at (ski field) today." But when I check I am 2nd or 3rd. Seriously? You guys are actually making fake notifications to get me on your app? It's a nice looking app and does a good job, but these two issues are huge for me. I can't compare with my friends because they can't even get in, and I have to disable the notifications because they are false.

I have two issues with this app. Firstly, it started having gps tracking issues last season. I hope that has been fixed. Secondly, there seems to be no way to remove someone who is following you. I think for privacy reasons I should be able to limit who can see where I'm skiing.

Some data is lost during full day of skiing. Lost ay least 30 runs last year.
