Track planes in real time as they fly across the blue skies

    • Amazing features in pro version
    • Augmented reality view to ID planes as they fly overhead
    • Extensive info of flight and plane model
    • Realtime tracking
    • Most features only for pro version

    "It's a bird! It's a plane! No, it's... wait, no, that's definitely a plane"

Plane Finder makes use of freely available data in a way you probably didn't know your mobile device could do - to display tracking data in real time for planes as they make their way to their destination.

The basic free version of the app just shows the skies as they currently are. Tap any symbol of a plane to find out its flight number and destination. That's about the extent of what you can do with the free version - if you upgrade, though, there are a ton of really cool features you'll unlock. You'll be able to search for specific flights and set up alerts for if they take off, land, or pass certain points. You get a heap more data, including information about the model of the plane itself. You even get access to an augmented reality view that lets you point your device into the sky to ID planes as they pass overhead.

Europe and North America are almost totally covered, and there's excellent coverage in many other countries the world over.

A recent upgrade lets you check out flights that have happened in the past as well.

The free version is kind of neat to look at, but it's definitely worth upgrading to the Premium version of Plane Finder if you enjoy the idea. The design is great and the features are super solid.

    Important Note:
Plane Finder works by picking up real time ADS-B signals used by aircraft to transmit positional data to land based receivers. This technology is faster than traditional radar and is used for air traffic control and navigation. ADS-B is not used by all airlines or aircraft, however this is changing and the number of aircraft tracked by ADS-B is increasing all of the time.
