    Wind-up Knight 2's review

Sequel to the acclaimed 2D sidescrolling ever-runner Wind-up Knight

    • Awesome and balanced gameplay
    • Outstanding graphics
    • Additional side quests
    • That damned flute song
    • It could have been a little more ambitious

"It will wind you up over and over"

That's how it works: Robot Invader's Wind-up Knight was one of our favorite games at the moment. It was one of the heirs to the feathered throne and we ran out of praises and acclaimed its awesome graphic design, its accurate gameplay and overall, its greatness as a neat example of how native m-gaming should be.

Wind-up 2 is more of everything. Improved graphics with a faerie tale cartoon style 3D-like graphics; a superb gameplay asking you to pay attention but timings aren't insanely difficult unless you want to achieve the highest ratings; a thrilling level design; tons of humor (the princess' tips have been enhanced with headlines from the Realm, so to speak) and an annoying flute music you will love for a minute and hate for the rest of your life. Animations are great, though they feel heavy sometimes, and camera adds intensity and clearness to the game.

And it's free. In fact, if it bequeathed Wind-up Knight 1 mechanics, you should be able to finish all the game without spending a cent, only fulfilling every stage with the best score and spending your coins only in extra levels. No ads, no pressure. In-app purchases allow you to wear better equipment and depend less on memory. As a great newness, there's a tournament option to take part in online leaderboards.

On the other hand, we would have liked to see more playable characters and more emphasis on storyline, if it's not asking too much. Anyway, no surprises here, Wind-up Knight 2 has come back to claim its throne, and even though it's still March, here we have a steady candidate for the game of the year.
