"A Nintendo Emulator That Needs Some Work"

    THE VERDICT

It may be unfair to judge a game while it's still in beta testing, but reviews must be fair. It's hard not to love apps that take the player back to old Nintendo games with a healthy dose of nostalgia, but unfortunately Mupen64 still has some work to do before it's ready for prime time.

    THE PROS

Being able to relive old Nintendo 64 games is always fun. Mupen64 also loads up quickly and does not hog device resources. The concept is solid even if the execution leaves much to be desired.

    THE CONS

It's not easy to figure out exactly how to play a game. Once loaded the game takes you to an opening screen with a play button that's grayed out. It took several minutes of trial an error just to figure out what was going on. Visuals need a lot of work. It's quite obvious that this game is currently in beta testing.

Mupen64Plus, Android Edition (AE) is an N64 emulator for Android. It is currently in Beta testing, which means it is a work in progress. I love this emulator I always will it's fantastic and it's come a long way! Recently however I ran into a new problem that wasn't there before, I can no longer play turok 2 seeds of evil because it crashes at the start when adon is transition cutscenes says checking controller Pak and resets, for now I'm using older version but I will make 5 stars again once this is fixed, I'm on GS8+

Excellent emulator with many updates in the past (I assume some recent) and decent input options. A few minor complaints: Input for Xbox One's right stick doesn't work. It seems to think it's constantly pushing at the top and right, a fix would be greatly appreciated, because otherwise my new Xbox One controller works well with it. I can use my Mad Catz controller for any game that requires use of the c-stick, but it'd be nice if someone would consider fixing this. I'd greatly appreciate it and I'm sure it wouldn't take too much effort. Second, you can't input save or load state buttons. It seems small, but being able to save on the fly with a button or reload a save state with a quick press of the menu/select key would be so useful. Third, I wish you could save per ROM. By that I mean save input configurations per ROM, so that when you load up said ROM (either because its name fits the requirement or something else), you didn't have to fumble about, realize you have it set for "Goldeneye controls" and go back to change it. All-in-all, though, this emulator is great. Maybe not the best it could be, but probably the best you can find and worth supporting with $1.
