Nakama's review

Take down enemy ninjas in this fast and furious retro side scroller

    • Superb soundtrack
    • Retro side scrolling goodness
    • Ninjas!
    • Highly accurate controls
    • Menu screen gave me a few buggy difficulties

"Ninjas continue to be better than both pirates and zombies"

Can you jump and slash your way through the enemy-infested scenes of Crescent Moon Games' Nakama? Expect a frenzy of ninjatastic action, old school pixelated style.

After running through a mini-tutorial teaching you the uses of the on-screen buttons, you're off to the forest on a mad quest to... well, slash baddies, really (do you really need a complicated storyline in a pixelated ninja game?). Defeat bosses every few screens to gain traveling companions who fight at your side. The combat is super quick; expect to hone your reflexes like crazy.

There's an endless mode option as well, if you'd like to face an infinite onslaught.

The music is stellar. Stellar! Combined with the slick sound effects and the super sensitive controls, it makes for surprisingly immersive gameplay in a pixelated environment.

There were some very slight bugs with the opening screen for me - I found the game locked up a few times when trying to access information/settings/etc. Downsizing it and reopening solved the problem for me. Would be great to see this fixed, because gameplay itself was seamless.

Crescent Moon Games' Nakama appears to be a fantastic hidden gem, given the current minuscule number of downloads. Get it before your friends.
