I barely tore myself away from Vlambeer's Ridiculous Fishing long enough to write this review. There's good reason for the massive popularity of this indie title; it's slickly quirky and unexpectedly hilarious at every turn.
You're Billy, weathered fisherman cast about on the high seas in search of critters lurking in the depths. Cast your line deep and true, avoiding fishies as you sink and ensnaring them as you reel it back in. Once you hit the surface, the fish go flying; bust out your pistol (yes) to shoot the gills off the airborne swimmers for big cash. Obviously, the deeper you plunge, the rarer the underwater beasties. Upgrade your line, reel, bait, firearm, and hat with your hard-earned dollars (all digi-fish generated, absolutely no in-app purchases here).
The constant sense of discovery offered by plummeting to the depths of the sea and unlocking new items in the store will keep you casting your line again and again. Visual design is absolutely top-of-the-line; it's pixellated without being retro in any sense. Combo tap and tilt controls are balanced, smooth, and hairpin precise.
Know this: there are also fish that become hats.
Ridiculous Fishing is one of the best casual games out there, unquestionably worth plonking down a couple bucks for the experience.
