Ultra difficult retro space piloting puts your reflexes to the test

    • Don't-crash, quick-fail mechanism is madly addictive
    • Music pretty decent
    • Offbeat sense of humor
    • Each round takes about 3 seconds - depends whether that's your bag or not

    "The juice is loose"

It's not fair that Flappy Bird's become an industry standard, but here we are (my name's Janel, by the way. It's a pleasure to make your acquaintance). There's nothing avian in Butterscotch Shenanigans' Roid Rage, but the don't-crash, rapid-failure gameplay feels strikingly similar in spirit.

A tanker went kaput in deep space, and now pockets of apparently radioactive blueberry juice peppers an asteroid field. You're the unpaid intern sent in to recover it, and the only controls you have for your ship steer it left and right - the gas pedal is permanently pressed. Touch your ship with a feather and it explodes, so you can imagine how it fares against careening asteroids.

It's an ultra-difficult game, there's just no way around it. You need nerves of absolute steel, and you're still going to crash, over and over and over again. It feels vaguely familiar. It still manages to be addictive. It's better than our flappy friend; the music's decent and the graphics are a cut above. Your rounds are still going to last approximately three seconds apiece, which is either super frustrating or makes for Game of the Century, all according to taste.

Butterscotch Shenanigans' Roid Rage is mostly harmless, vaguely fun, and definitely addictive.
