Collect, level up, and fight with Pokémon-like mini-monsters

    • Great visual and animation design
    • Tons of monsters to discover and collect
    • Will hit the Pokénostalgia nerve
    • Can play offline
    • Annoying ads
    • Repetitive, simple music
    • Constant pokes to connect with Facebook

    "Bulutiful monsters"

You caught 'em all in your youth but Nintendo still won't let you catch 'em all on your phone. Sigma Game Limited steps up to the pocket monster plate with Bulu Monsters, which will immediately feel familiar to anyone who grew up with Pikachu.

Explore a wide world inhabited by mini-monsters for the catching. Level up a kickin' team through battles and quests. You'll move by tapping waypoint squares, and find beasties by hitting the "search" bar - so no totally random encounters here. There's also a storyline drawing you through the experience, although it's not as developed as the original pocket monster saga. The visual design is absolutely the strong point of Bulu Monsters; the care taken in creating each of the critters and their animated attacks is obvious.

The music, however, is far too simplistic and repetitive, which ends up quickly grating on your nerves. The game also prompts you very frequently to connect it to your Facebook account, and would really like for you to make a post every time even the most insignificant event occurs ("You found a potion! Post this to FB?"). The interstitial ads are also fairly annoying.

One big plus as compared to other monster collection games is that this one can be played completely offline if you wish.

Regardless, Sigma Game Limited's Bulu Monsters is a decent choice if you miss Pokémon. Discovering the variety of monsters is genuinely fun, and the animations are great.
